ADOPTION STORIES
June and July 2009 Adoptions
Skylar
is a female, small red eyed white bunny was chosen to be a mate to a
bunny named Jacob. Jacob lost his mate very recently and was extremely
depressed so his family decided they would find him a new friend to
help ease his pain. Skylar and Jacob took some time to get to know each
other at the shelter and eventually ended up snuggling with each other
on the floor in our office. We hope that Skylar's presence in Jacob's
home will help him work through his grief and we appreciate this family
giving Skylar the chance at having a forever family and experiencing
the love of a bunny boyfriend!
Seal
is a male bunny, white with brown and black spots who has been in the
shelter for quite some time. He took ahold of the heart of one of our
volunteers a few months ago when he needed to go into foster care to
recover and did not let go. Our volunteer is in love with Seal and has
decided to make this a permanent addition to her family. In addition,
she is adopting a girl bunny so Seal will have a companion for the rest
of his life. Seal chose our girl, Sammy, to be his new best friend.
They are taking it slowly and hoping to become friends first and then
maybe down the road get more serious! Congrats to Sammy and her new
forever family!
One of our voluteers has fallen in love with our bunnies Grizzelda and Grendel. G&G are the fuzzy pair that was back in the corner by the sink. Grizzelda is a jersey wooley/lop mix and Grendel is a beautiful brown lionhead. G&G will not miss the shelter at all, as clearly noted by the bunny laughter and giggles that were coming out of the carrier as they were leaving the rescue! They will be very happy livingin an air conditioned home with run of large rooms. G&G will be missed, but we are so grateful that our volunteer has taken them into her heart and her home and given them a wonderful new life with a family!
Orson,
who is a large dark agouti boy, has been in foster care for the last
couple of months, has finally convinced his foster mom to adopt him
permanently! Yeah! He has attached himself to this family's heart and
won't let go and they have finally given in to Orson's peer pressure!
:-) Orson will live a very spoiled life with his new family and we
appreciate them allowing Orson to binkie his way into their lives!
Congrats!
Harriet,
a large agouti girl that has been in the shelter for a couple of years
already, was adopted by a family with five children. They are very
happy to have a new addition to their family and couldn't wait to get
her home to introduce her to her new house! They have never had a bunny
before, but had been doing research online and everyone had agreed that
a bunny was the best fit for their family! Harriet will receive a lot
of attention and many hours of exercise so we're sure that she will be
successful in dropping a couple of pounds as was the plan with the
Bally's for Bunnies program. The wait for her forever family has
finally come to an end! It was worth it!
Evan is a young harlequin bunny that we rescued from Chicago with his mom and siblings. Evan was adopted by a young lady who is an experienced bunny owner. Her rabbit of six years recently passed away and she was very sad by his passing. She and her mom decided that this time they wanted to adopt a bunny that needed a home, so they found our shelter and contacted us through our Petfinder pages. Evan was a very good boy in her new mom’s lap and will be a very nice addition to this family. They don't have any other pets and Evan's condo is right in the middle of their home, so he will be able to be a part of all the activity. Mom was so happy to have found Evan and he seemed very agreeable to going home with her to be her new best friend! Congrats to them all!
Ramsey
is a small dwarf who was part of the baby boom last summer. Her mom is
Marmee and she spent a great deal of time in foster care the first
several months of her life. She is shy but sweet and will be so happy
in her new home as a single pet. She will be showered with lots of
attention and plenty of run time. Her new family has not owned a rabbit
in the past but they were very happy to learn about our organization in
a recent article about us that was published in the Oakland Press. Her
new family was very excited to get her home and set her up in her new
house. She will be very happy! Congrats to Ramsey and her new forever
family!
Ariel, a female dwarf english spot about one year old, was adopted by an experienced bunny owner family! Ariel will be taken care of by the 15 year old daughter, who is extremely dedicated to her pets. Ariel will not be bonded to the other bunnies they already own, but they wanted to give another homeless bunny a chance at a happy, family life. In case you don't know Ariel, she came from Chicago where she had given birth to two different litters in about 30 days. She was a very good momma bunny and she and her second litter came to us in March once the babies and momma were stable enough to travel. They stayed in foster care where they were socialized with cats, dogs and lots of holding and petting and they have been brought up to the shelter for adoption after they had their neuter or spay surgeries. Ariel is very sweet and friendly and she will do very well in this family’s care. We wish them the best of luck!
MAY 2009 ADOPTIONS
Keeley,
a female white californian with light grey markings, was adopted by a
family that had a little bunny boy who was very happy to meet all the
beautiful bachelorettes! The family was finally able to agree that
Keeley was the best fit for the family and Keeley agreed to go home
with them and give it the old college try! Good luck to Keeley on her
new adventure!
Cathy
Jo, a female dutch/lionhead mix, is a shelter favorite and we were very
surprised that she was in the shelter as long as she was. She has
beautiful blue eyes and a sparkling personality too! She also got a
boyfriend out of the adoption and her new foster mom and dad were very
happy they had found her.
Iris
and Georgie were adopted by a very sweet young lady who fell in love
with this beautiful couple. She is a first time bunny owner and was
very open to adopting a couple instead of just one bunny. She has
already contacted us to say that "she can't wait to get home at the end
of the day to spend time with them". They are doing very well and have
settled into their new forever home already! We wish them all the best
of luck!
Freedom,
a female lionhead, dutch mix bunny that came to us with her siblings
last fall, has finally found her forever home. She was adopted by a
very sweet lady who is dedicated to rescuing her pets from shelters
like ours. She did a lot of research before adopting our bunny girl.
She set up a huge condo with different levels and lots of toys. Freedom
will be spoiled beyond belief and eventually get a mate so she can live
a full and happy life. Congrats to Freedom! She has finally found her
forever home!
Katarina,
a female red eyed bunny, was very lucky to be chosen by a young lady
who once volunteered at the shelter. She brought her handsome lop named
Dylan to meet some of our bachelorettes and they took their time
getting to know the girls. However, Dylan seemed to like Katarina the
best and so Katarina agreed to share the rest of her life with Dylan.
Our
sweet young boy Wilbur was adopted by a very, very sweet lady who has
been visiting the shelter the last couple of months looking for that
special bunny who wanted to go home with her. It is no surprise that
she chose Wilbur! He is one of the sweetest boys that we've had come
into the shelter and he will live a fabulous life with his new mommy
being spoiled beyond belief as he is the only pet that she has in her
home.
Merris, a female brown dutch bunny, was adopted by a very nice family that already had a male bunny for whom they wanted a companion. Merris was very tolerant of the bunny boy and he was very happy to meet Merris. They took her home and will be scheduling a neuter surgery for their male, but in the meantime Merris will live in her own pen and be pampered and take her time getting use to the new routine with her new forever family!!! Congrats to Merris!
Sugar,
a white female hotot, was adopted by a very devoted couple who recently
lost their bunny girl to old age. They had a bunny boy who was very sad
and they wanted to find him a new friend and so they came to the
shelter for a little bunny speed dating. Sugar was very sweet to the
lady and didn't seem to mind the bunny boy either. They were enchanted
by her sweet face and her big dewlap. We're sure she will introduce
them to her little attitude once she gets settled into their home, but
they are very experienced and were not concerned about her not wanting
to be handled too much! Good luck to Sugar! We think she has finally
found a sweet deal!
River,
a white with black spots lop male, was adopted by a family with three
kids. They spent some time with River petting and hanging out in the
bonding area. River was very sweet and not opposed to all of the
attention and petting! The family did not take him home because they
wanted to set up the perfect area for him and make sure they are ready
for when he comes home. River went home about a week later.
Pebbles
- who you may know as Bam Bam's sister - but she was a single bunny
girl looking for love! We think she may have finally found it. The
young couple that adopted her were so enamored of her that they
couldn't wait to get her home. The young man had owned bunnies in the
past when he was a kid and he remembered how much fun they can be as a
companion animal! They built a pen set up for her just like the ones
that we use in the shelter and they couldn't wait to bring her home and
watch her little personality blossom. I am sure that Pebbles will be
very happy with her new family! Congrats to them!!!
Eli
is a male agouti bunny. He was one of Paulina's sons and the very
sweetest boy you can imagine. He was adopted by two parents that have a
long history of rescuing animals. They were so excited to take him home
to their family and introduce him. One of the daughters was so happy
that she cried and laughed until she couldn't cry anymore. They have
already contacted us to say thank you and to tell us that Eli loves his
new cage and hops in and out of it all day long. He loves to run around
and then he jumps back into his cage and takes a little time out to
recharge his batteries!! :-) Eli has found his forever family!!
Dane & Dahlia were adopted by a young lady as a birthday present from her mom. She has always wanted a bunny and she turned 16 this year and her mom thought she was ready to own and care for her own bunny. She came by with her older sisters and they all fell in love immediately with the beautiful Rex couple. Dane was quite a sweetie and Dahlia was extremely enchanted with one of the sisters who was holding her and petting her continuously. This family was so excited about getting them home and there was a lot of talking about building the pen and making toys and and hidey houses and all those cool things that bunnies love to have in their pens. I'm sure these little guys will get lots of attention and have a great new life in their home with the teenage girls!!!
APRIL 2009 ADOPTIONS
Maglio
and Mary Moppet were adopted by a very nice lady who recently lost her
pet bunny of eight years. She had always wanted to have a pair of
bunnies and was so happy to come to our shelter and see all of the
wonderful bonded couples that we had to offer. She had a hard time
deciding which pair to take home, but ultimately Mary and Maglio were
chosen because of their sweet affection for each other.
Our
special boy Whistler has finally found his forever home! He has been
waiting patiently for 3+ years and his new owner came into the shelter
last week specifically looking for him. She is a long time supporter of
Midwest and an experienced bunny slave who we are confident will be
patient with Whistler while he gains the trust he needs to be able
to relax and settle in to his new home and family. I am sure that there
will be good news forthcoming of his new life.
Tawny,
a small light tan female who was part of a large influx of babies born
last summer, has found her forever home. In the process, she has also
gained a lovely boyfriend named Maximillian. He is a hotot who was
dumped outside. A very nice neighborhood lady picked him up and has
been taking care of him for quite a while. She had finally decided that
he needed a friend and companion and Tawny was very happy to
accommodate Max and his family. Tawny will live a wonderful life with
this family.
Orson
was finally scooped up by one of our longtime supporters. He is taking
his time getting to know her female bunny and although she is being a
bit territorial now, we are sure that Orson will be able to charm her
with those big beautiful brown eyes and that dreamy dark agouti fur of
his. He has found himself a wonderful home and we are so happy that
someone has finally taken him home. He deserves a great life as do all
the other bunnies.
Tupelo,
a male, black uppity eared bunny, was adopted by a previous adopter of
Midwest. They brought their pretty dutch girl, Jersey in to meet a
mate and Tupelo was very sweet and kind to her when meeting for
the first time. In fact, he was so sweet that he let her be the boss
the entire time they were in the bonding pen together. Just goes to
show that he really wanted to go home with her! :-) His new adopters
were very happy to see that he was agreeable since they came to see him
specifically. Like most plain black bunnies, Tupelo has been in the
shelter for a couple of years and so we were very, very happy to have
him be chosen to go home with Jersey and her parents. He will do
wonderfully with his new family and we hope they live happily ever
after!
Sosa,
a female gray and white Silver Marten, was adopted by a very sweet
couple who owned a Holland Lop named Finnegan. Finn and his family came
over to meet Sosa specifically because they saw her on petfinder and
were intrigued by her profile description. Finn was quite a ladies man
that day and probably would have loved to go home with any of the young
ladies he had met, but Finn's mommy was drawn to Sosa. So, Finn nicely
asked Sosa if she would like to go home with him and live happily ever
after and she accepted. Yeah!!! We have already received a picture with
a note that says that Finn and Sosa are living in the same cage,
following each other around like little puppy dogs and grooming each
other very gently. We are very grateful that Sosa has found her
forever home and a loving husband all in one fell swoop! Congrats to
Finn and Sosa.
Tigger
is male agouti bunny who is one of Paulina's babies! He came to us last
October with his mom and six brothers and sister. He is a very, very
sweet boy who has been known to give kisses at the shelter to the
volunteers. Tigger caught the attention of a wonderful little girl,
Caroline, and her family last weekend. They spent some time with him at
our rescue doing some bonding. Caroline got down on the floor with
Tigger and he immediately began to binkie all over the pen they were
sitting in. He continued to look around, but always came back to
Caroline to sniff her and get some pets. She was absolutely smitten
with him by the time they left and was so happy that she chose him to
be her new best friend. We have already heard from Caroline and her
family that Tigger has relaxed in his new condo they built for him and
was doing super binkies all over the living room where he is living
with his new forever family! Congrats to the family and our beloved
Tigger!
Daphne
is a female flemmish giant who was adopted by a wondeful family. This
family who adopted Daphne has been looking at her online profile on
petfinder since December and finally decided that because she had not
been adopted yet, that they were meant to adopt her themselves. Daphne
will be the only bunny in this household with two cats and two kids.
She will have a huge condo in the living room where all of the action
is. This family has owned bunnies in the past and was very determined
to choose a bunny who was larger just because they know how hard it is
to adopt out the bigger bunnies! They have also contacted us already to
tell us that Daphne is getting along just fine and that she is enjoying
the hay and pellets they are giving her. It sounds like Daphne will not
have any trouble settling in to this loving family's home. Congrats to
Daphne on her new forever home!
Curly
is a small agouti male bunny who was raised in a foster home when his
mother gave birth at our rescue last May. He was chosen over the
internet by a sweet young lady who had recently lost her beloved pet
bunny a week or so ago. She came in to visit him and they snuggled and
fell in love right away! Wow - love at first sight really does exist!
Congrats to Curly.
Stella
Luna a female white lop with black spots who was chosen to live with a
very sweet bunny boy by his owners. They came in with their bunny and
spent some time meeting our eligible bachelorettes before deciding to
adopt Stella. Stella has been waiting a very long time for her forever
home and so we are very happy to report this adoption to you. Yeah for
Stella Luna!!!
MARCH 2009 ADOPTIONS
Caroline is a medium sized white lop with grey spots. Caroline was adopted by one of our previous adopters. In fact, this person just adopted our wonderful boy, Cloud last week. She was so enamored with Cloud that they decided to get a second bunny and came back to fall in love with Caroline. Cloud and Caroline are taking it slow but they are already showing signs of liking each other a lot. Their new mommy has already seen grooming going on when they have their supervised exercise time. Yahoo for these two! What a nice pair of bunnies they adopted! Good luck to them all!
Cohen is a male, black and white dutch bunny. Cohen has caught the attention and admiration of a young couple who is just starting out in their married life together. This couple is engaged to be married as soon as he returns from Afghanistan, which they are hoping will be soon! Cohen got to meet his new mommy on Saturday and she fell in love instantly like we knew she would. She did not take Cohen home on Saturday because she is moving into a new apartment very shortly and doesn't want to put Cohen through the stress of the move. So, he is staying with us for another week or so and then he gets to go to his new forever home! We will miss him when he leaves us! He is such a sweet boy! Congrats to Cohen!
Luigi, who is a medium sized black lop, has been in a pen on the back shelf for at least a year. He's been in the rescue for longer than that, but never really liked to spend time out of his cage. He has been very scared and shy his entire stay in the rescue! Luigi was adopted by a couple that doesn't have any other pets or kids in the house. They are experienced bunny owners who understand that some bunnies just don't like to be held or picked up. Luigi, who is quite timid and shy, did seem to calm down pretty quickly in the arms of his new dad, though. This couple decided to take Luigi home and give him the forever home that we know he has been longing to find! We think Luigi is going to the perfect home for his temperament and he will be loved and spoiled until the end of his days! We hope that is a very, very long time from now!
Cloud, who is a red eyed white boy that has been at the rescue for approximately one year. He is one of the sweetest little guys we have in the rescue, always coming to the front of the cage for pets and treats! He was adopted by a previous adopter and will be spoiled and loved by this family. They recently lost their beloved bunny and so they were very happy knowing that they could help Midwest out again by giving a home to another deserving bunny rabbit.
Shadow who is small grey female residing in the very first cage near the front door was adopted and paired with an adorable angora mix boy bunny named Einstein. Shadow and Einstein got to know each other for a little bit yesterday in the rescue and by the end of the dating session, Einstein was comfortable enough with Shadow that he was munching on the same piece of hay that Shadow was munching on. When their little lips met, Shadow pulled away from him in surprise! Just like in Lady and the Tramp! It was absolutely adorable! Shadow agreed to go home with Einstein and his family and see if he is THE ONE! They made an adorable pair because they both had the same grey coloring, although Einstein had a lot of white on his little body. We wish them the best of luck and hope that this pairing goes better than the last pairing the family tried.
Nadia is a female rex that is spotted with beautiful caramel colored spots and some darker brown spots as well. She has been in foster care for a few months due to some pretty bad sore hocks. Luckily for her, she has pulled through with flying colors and her foster mom was able to discover what a wonderful personality that Nadia truly had. Something we didn't get a chance to see while she was in the rescue! So, Nadia was adopted by a wonderful young lady and her husband. They are huge animal lovers and the lady is even a vet tech in a vet's office that does work with exotics. She is the perfect adopter for Nadia since she has the experience and the obvious connection to the vet. We wish Nadia and her new family the best of luck! We’re sure she will do very well with them!
Payton is a female lop eared bunny who was born in the rescue to our girl, Foxy. Payton is a sweet girl and has been in the rescue for approximately two years! She is a little shy, but lately has been coming to the front of her cage for pets and actually not running away from being picked up. She spent some time in foster care around the holidays and maybe that helped her to not be so afraid of people. The young lady that adopted Payton is a first time bunny owner, but was so very excited about adopting Payton she couldn't wait to get her home. She and her sister were buying a cage for her and all of the recommended items that she would need in order to ensure that she was comfortable in her new home. We’re sure Payton will do just fine with her new mommy. In fact, while they were getting to know each other on Sunday, Hannah (Payton's new mommy) was standing inside the x-pen that we had set up for her and Payton kept coming over to Hannah and sneaking around behind her. She would then stand up on her back legs to sniff the back of Hannah's legs. It was the cutest thing!
Brandon - small white male with red eyes. Brandon is a polish dwarf that was actually born at our rescue last summer. He is very sweet and has been adopted by a loyal volunteer who is planning to bond him to a small handicapped female bunny that she owns. Brandon had already met his future sweetie pie in a brief dating session and they seem to hit it off from the beginning. Brandon was very sweet and gentle with Molly (his new wife) and she was a little scared at first, but changed her mind pretty fast and though Brandon was very cute. Brandon will live a very nice life with Molly and his new bunny mommy! We wish them the best of luck.
